Vernon Edward Batcheller, son of Guy and Georgia Worthan Batcheller, was born September 9, 1930 in Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City and Fort Dodge school systems. On January 11, 1964, he married Anna Lou Riehn in Boone and the couple resided in Webster City. He owned a local service station, worked in sales at local car dealers for 15 years, and owned and operated the Batcheller Construction Company in Webster City for 29 years. In 1998, he retired and the couple moved to Lake View to fulfill their dream of living on a lake. This year, Verne and Anna Lou celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Verne is survived by his wife, Anna Lou; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Batcheller of San Antonio, TX; Anthony (Tony) and Shari Batcheller of Urbandale, IA; Bruce and Jennifer Batcheller of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Paul and Kara Batcheller of Riverside, IA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester Batcheller of Buckeye, AZ; Merlyn Batcheller of Centennial, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Alberta Pappas and Bertha Grady; brothers Glen, Kenneth and Guy Leland Batcheller, and great-granddaughter, Peyton Block. Verne was a past member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a current member of the Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View. His passion was spending time with his family and friends, with most of his great memories on the water: boating, skiing, and fishing. He also greatly enjoyed tending his lawn, garden, orchard, and flowers. More than anything, Verne enjoyed living life through his family and friends.
