Obituary for Richard Dean Owens

Dick Owens, 84, of Webster City, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Richard Dean Owens, son of Tony and Nina Lucille Oliver Owens, was born on October 8, 1929 at Buffalo, Oklahoma. Dick graduated from Garden Grove, Iowa and the Iowa Barber School in Des Moines. On September 13, 1951, he married Mildred Ione Beavers in Leon, Iowa. The couple moved to Webster City where he worked for Franklin Manufacturing before beginning his career in barbering. Dick owned and operated the Owen's Barber Shop in Webster City. After barbering for nearly 50 years he retired in 2004. Dick is survived by his wife, Ione; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Dan Doolittle and Beth and Russ Chelesvig, all of Webster City; grandchildren, Leonard Fortune, Levi and Graceann Chelesvig; great-granddaughter, Addison Fortune. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dale Owens. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, American Legion Post # 191, the Moose Lodge and the Elks.
