Obituary for Charles William Allen

Charles W. Allen Jr., 87, of Stanhope, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Rev. Kathryn Yarnell officiating. Burial will be in Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Charles William Allen Jr., son of Charles and Ella Wheeler Allen Sr., was born June 5, 1927 in Stanhope. He graduated from Stanhope Consolidated Schools. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 18, serving from 1945 to 1948. On February 22, 1949, he married Marigene Berry at the family home in Stanhope. Charles farmed one mile south of Stanhope until retiring in 1989. Charles is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Martin Fry of Clive; granddaughter and her husband, Crystal and Ricky Frausto of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Damian and Teagan Frausto; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Ruby, Bessie, Faye, Edna and Gladys. Charles was a past member of the Stanhope Methodist Church.
