Obituary for Sharon Sue Welch

Sharon S. Welch, 71, of Duncombe, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fosters. Sharon Sue Scott daughter of George and Maebelle Blair Scott was born on August 31, 1939 in Webster City. She graduated from the Webster City Lincoln High School in 1957. On November 18, 1957 she married Jack Pelz in Blairsburg. The couple later divorced. On February 12, 1989 she married Gil Welch in Webster City. Sharon had worked for over 21 years for HyVee in Webster City as a bookkeeper. Sharon also worked as a convenience store manager for Casey's stores in the Des Moines area. In 2008 Gil and Sharon both retired and moved to the Duncombe area. Survivors include her husband, Gil; son, Mike (Lisa Goettsch) Pelz of Webster City; daughter, Cynthia Pelz of Carlsbad, CA; stepchildren, Shawna (Tracy) Mikesell of Carlisle; Eric (Leah) Welch of Ankeny; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Anne (Caroll) Claude of Woolstock; Jean (Michael) Raske of Radcliffe; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; 3 great great nieces: and her beloved dog Baxter. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and grandson, Richard Goettsch. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Webster City. Her hobbies included plastic canvas and knitting in which she made beautiful afghans for her family and friends to enjoy. She also was a huge Elvis fan and especially loved spending quality time with all of her grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the discretion of the family.
