Obituary for Ronald Alan Lateer

Ron A. Lateer, 76, of Webster City, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Eichler officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 and prior to the service. Ronald Alan Lateer, son of Ernest and Alice Carolus Lateer, was born October 19, 1937 at Clarion, Iowa. He attended Clarion Public Schools. In 1962, he married Mary Rapp at Webster City. To this union two daughters were born. They were later divorced. On October 15, 1976, he married Joyce Ellen Bickford at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. He had been employed at Morton's Frozen Foods, Hart-Carter and 27 years at Electrolux retiring in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Amy Lateer of Webster City; Alicia (Bill) Lateer-Huhn of Alexandria, KY; goddaughter, Emily Loughry (Michael Claman) of Webster City; three borrowed grandchildren, Bridjett, Naythan and Mikenzie; sisters, Maureen (Vern) Elston of Clarion; Bonnie Boyd of Rushford, MN; Sherrie (David) Zellinger of Newton; sister-in-law, Alice (Ed) Sergeant of Waterloo; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; sisters, Beverly Rice and Frances Forrester; and his best furchild, Cuddles. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and United Auto Workers Local # 442. Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting ceramics, making a joyful music library for their car rides and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He never knew a stranger, as his jokes always made a friend. He loved to drive down gravel roads to look for wild asparagus and to see where he would end up.
