Obituary for Robert Edward Mertz

Robert Edward Mertz son of Harry and M. Helen Forrester Mertz was born on November 24, 1928 in Webster City. He received his education from the Newton and Webster City Schools, graduating from Webster City Lincoln High School in 1947. He attended Webster City Junior College and in 2000, received his B.A. degree from Iowa State University. On June 15, 1952 he married Dolores Jonetta Heath in Des Moines. The couple divorced in 1981. He worked at Forrester's Dairy, McMurray Hatchery and Arrow Acme before joining his father in Mertz Engineering. Mr. Mertz purchased Mertz Engineering in Webster City in 1968. He also co-founded Multi-Line Fluid Power which made hydraulic cylinders in 1977 and later became sole owner of the company. Robert honorably served for over 21 years in E Company 133rd Infantry Reg. 34th Division of the Army National Guard. On August 8, 1992, he married Kimberley Lynn Crouch in Las Vegas. The couple continued to reside in Webster City, until his retirement in 2004 which was spent in Mt Juliet, Shelbyville and Arlington, TN . In addition to his wife Kim, he is survived by his daughters ,Mary Mertz of Webster City, Aileen (David) Hutton of Correctionville , brother , David Mertz of Las Cruces, NM. Nieces and Nephews including Kelsey and Travis Lester of Webster City, who he helped raise in addition to numerous cousins and relation. Bob was a member of the First Congregational UCC Church in Webster City, Murray McMurray's Boy Scout Troop and Acacia Lodge#176-AF&AM in Webster City. He was preceded in death by his Father, Harry in 1976 and Mother, Helen, in 1999.
