Obituary for Robert V. Hayes

Robert V. Hayes, 83, of Webster City, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center and prior to the service on Tuesday. Robert Vern Hayes, son of Lester and Blanche Nelson Hayes, was born January 1, 1928 at Webster City. He received his education in the Mud Hollow rural school and Webster City schools, graduating from Lincoln High. On May 6, 1951, he married Glenda Mae Donahe at the Asbury United Methodist Church. The couple resided in Webster City, where he was owner/operator of Hayes Trucking and Hayes Equipment. During his 61 year career, he logged over four million miles throughout the United States. He retired in 2007. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Glenda; sons and daughters-in-law; Grant and Joan Hayes of Warner Robins, GA; Gailord and Sook Hayes of Seattle, WA; Gregory and Diane Hayes of Wausau,WI; Gordon and Margaret Hayes of Warner Robins, GA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Dorothy Hayes of Webster City; LeRoy and Karen Hayes of Urbandale; Russell and Connie Hayes of Stewartville, MN; Gene and Janet Hayes of Fort Dodge; Roger and Teresa Hayes, Gary and Alice Hayes, Steve and Beverly Hayes, Ted and Jeri Hayes, all of Webster City; Marilyn Hayes of Garner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harlan Hayes; granddaughter, Amy Lynne Hayes and sister-in-law, Janice Gordon Hayes. He was a six year member of the Iowa National Guard, helped organize fundraising for the Republican Party, was a former Golden Gloves Champion and worked with United Bretherns Church to move the stained glass at the former Faith United Methodist Church.
