Obituary for Robert Daniel Gilmore

Robert D. Gilmore, 84, of Webster City, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden with Rev. Jay Jaeger officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Alden Cemetery. Robert Daniel Gilmore, son of Roy and Lila Ranger Gilmore, was born March 6, 1924 in Alden, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Alden Senior High School. On January 9, 1946, he married Gerene Mae Puttkamer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple resided near Alden. He farmed in the Alden and Williams area until his retirement. The couple moved to Webster City in January of 2001. He had been residing at the Southfield Wellness Community since March of 2008. In addition to his wife, Gerene, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cindy Gilmore of Ames, Kent and Helen Gilmore of Mankato, MN.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mark Hild of Webster City; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Marie Gilmore of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Verdelle Ellingson and a sister, in infancy, Cozette Jean Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden. He was a member of the Williams Lions Club from 1952-2007. He was also presented the Warren Coleman Honorary Award from the Iowa Lions Foundation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Robert's name to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, Williams Lions Club or the American Diabetes Association.
