Obituary for Neva Lorene Eckstein

Neva Lorene Schweppe Eckstein, 94, died peacefully on August 12, 2011, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, IA. Neva was born on April 6, 1917, to George W. and Muriel Lorena Riley Schweppe in Kamrar, IA. She graduated from Kamrar High School in l934 and from the Iowa School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines in 1935. She married the love of her life Ralph W. Eckstein on July 25, 1937, and they had four children. Neva pursued a successful career as a beautician and owned Neva's Beauty Salon in Ames, IA, until she and Ralph retired to McAllen, TX. Neva loved life, was an avid golfer, and thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Neva was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister Opal Butler and her two brothers, Edwin and Melford Schweppe. She will be missed and her memory cherished by her son, R. Charles (Janice) Eckstein, of Sun City, AZ; her daughters, Marcia (Fred) Hartman of Ankeny; IA; Monica Green of St. Louis, MO; and Muriel (Jim) Scott of Loudonville, NY; grandchildren Scott (Cathleen) Hartman of Prairie Village, KS; Alicia Eckstein (Kate Swenson) of Des Moines, IA; Joel (Abbie) Green of St. Louis, MO; Nathaniel (Jennifer) Green of St. Louis, MO; Ben (Staci) Scott of Issaquah, WA; Brittany Scott of Chicago, IL and great-grandchildren Alex Hartman of San Diego, CA; Emily Hartman of Providence, RI; Joseph Green III and William Green, both of St. Louis, MO; and Jackson Scott of Issaquah, WA; sister-in-law Charlotte Schweppe of Webster City and many nieces and nephews. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary, caring staff of Sunnyview Care Center. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Ankeny at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center in Webster City
