Obituary for Mary Louise Hill

Mary L. Hill, 85, of Stanhope, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the First Congregational U.C.C. with Rev. Craig Blaufuss officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center and prior to services on Monday at the church. Mary Louise Blake, daughter of Dwain and Evelyn Stuckey Blake was born July 1, 1926 at Green Island, Iowa. She attended grade school in Green Island and high school in Bellevue, Iowa. She moved to Webster City her senior year and graduated from Lincoln High in 1943. Mary graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Dietetics and Home Economics. She taught in the Jordan, Huxley, and Webster City school systems. On February 21, 1954, she married William Mason Hill at the First Congregational U.C.C. in Webster City. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm in Hamilton township, in Hamilton county. Mr. Hill died on May 9, 2011. Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Vicki Hill of Stanhope; Robert and Jane Hill of Denver, NC; daughters, Debra Hill of Ames and Barbara Medici of Johnston; grandchildren, Megan Hill of West Des Moines; Sarah Hill of Des Moines; Jenny and Matt Papin of Des Moines; Alex Hill of Webster City; Alicia and Mike Huguelet of Chicago, IL; Maria and Brett Sandy of West Des Moines; Amelia Medici of Johnston; Cammeo Medici of Chicago, IL; Giulia and Adam Jackson of Runnells; Tyler Hill and Tara Hill both of Charlotte, NC; and five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Jeanette Blake; and son-in-law, Edward Medici. Mary was an active member of the First Congregational U.C.C. Her memberships and affiliations also included the Iowa State Alumni Association; P.E.O. JE, Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary; Hamilton County Home Economics Advisory Committee; served as president of the Hamilton County Porkettes; past president of the J. M. Women's Club; worthy matron of the Sharon chapter 148 of the Order Of The Eastern Star where she was a 50 year member; Hamilton township trustee for many years and Flying Farmers member. She enjoyed flying and earned her pilots license in 1985. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. She also enjoyed her flowers and spending the winters in their home in Mesa, AZ. with her loving husband Bill, since 1988.
