Obituary for Kathryn Maurine Johnson

Kathryn Johnson, 94, of Webster City, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Slininger officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Kathryn Maurine Widman, daughter of Carl and Amanda Heiden Widman, was born March 15, 1920 on a farm north of Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. On October 23, 1941, she married Vernie W. Johnson at Webster City. The couple farmed in the Webster City and Stratford area until Vernie's death in 1964. The family moved to Webster City where she worked 18 years for Hayne Printing and then at Beam Industries for 14 years. Kathryn is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Ronald Lyon of Cambridge; son, Keith Johnson of Webster City; grandchildren, Matthew (Olga) Lyon of Urbandale, Jill (Dan) Shivapour of Shaker Heights, OH; great-grandsons, Alexander and William Shivapour; sister, June Ulrick of Stratford; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Scott of Webster City and Shirley Chalfant of Wenatchee, WA and many close friends that were her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Julie Christensen; brothers, Waldo and Richard Widman; sisters, Margaret Faulkner and Mary Dial. Kathryn was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she prepared communion for many years. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, traveling, fellowship with Hope Circle members, and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
