Obituary for Ivan Meredith Hutson

Ivan Hutson, 91, of San Juan Capistrano, California, a former Webster City resident, died Thursday July 17, 2014 at Emeritus Care. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Webster City, with Rev. Patrick Wiedemeier officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. The Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is caring for the family. Ivan Meredith Hutson, son of Vinton and Mathilda Myhre Hutson, was born June 30, 1923 at Hayfield, Iowa. He moved with his family to Webster City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1943, where he served on active duty in Central Europe and was honorably discharged in February of 1946. He married Audrey Lucille Smith at the First Baptist Church in Webster City on June 24, 1951. He was employed by Naden Industries in Webster City for almost fifty years. Ivan moved to California in 1992. Audrey died March 7, 2005. Ivan is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Maria Hutson of San Jose, CA, daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Randy Etter of Dana Point, CA; grandchildren, Brigite Thompson of San Jose, CA, Josh and wife, Honor Etter of Laguna Niguel, CA; Brandon and Shawn Etter of Dana Point, CA; great-grandchildren, Shanaye, Calvin and Austin of Laguna Niguel, CA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Phyllis Fort, Avis Bennett and Aurora Brooks. Ivan was a past member of the Church of the Valley in San Ramon CA and the First Baptist Church at Webster City, where he faithfully served his church in many capacities. His passion was music. He sang in the Webster City Men's Chorus, the choir at both the Church of the Valley and the First Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church Barbershop Quartet, many solos at the First Baptist Church for church services, weddings and funerals and started singing at the Foster Funeral Home in 1949.
