Obituary for Harley Francis Groves

Harley Groves, 80, of Farmington Minnesota, a former longtime resident of Webster City, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Apple Valley, Minnesota, surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 8 at Asbury United Methodist Church at 1:30, with Rev. Jay Amundson officiating. Harley Francis Groves, son of Leslie and Margaret Olson Groves was born January 11, 1934 on the family farm near Stanhope Iowa. He received his education in the Stanhope Consolidated School, graduating in 1953. After graduation he served two years in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Janis Daniels on July 31, 1960. He worked for the street department in Webster City for many years, retiring in 1996. He and his wife moved to Farmington Minnesota in 2003. He loved gardening, woodworking, mushroom hunting, his family and the Iowa Hawkeyes He is survived by his wife, Janis Groves of Farmington; daughters, Holly Groves of Farmington; Lisa (Tim Mrozek) Groves of Brooklyn Park, MN; son, David Groves of Apple Valley; grandchildren, Avarie Groves (Gunnar Bestenlehner) of Apple Valley; Harrison Groves of Apple Valley; great-grandson, Orion David Bestenlehner; sister, Bonnie Healy of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Margaret Groves of Ames; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald and Roger Groves.
