Obituary for Gertrude Odegaard Sherwood

Gertrude Minnie Knapp, daughter of George and Minnie Kelly Knapp, was born March 10, 1925 at Webster City. She received her education in Webster City schools, graduating from Lincoln High. On April 6, 1946, she married Harold Clifford Odegaard at Webster City. The couple resided at Webster City where she was employed at Morton Frozen Foods. They were later divorced. On October 9, 1954, she married Francis “Frank” Sherwood at Albert Lea, MN. The couple resided at Webster City. Mr. Sherwood died May 23, 1959. Gertrude moved to California in July of 1968. She had lived at Chino, Ontario and 21 years at Huntington Beach. For over 14 years, she had worked for Motel 6 as a desk clerk. Gertrude is survived by son, Mike Odegaard of Webster City; daughter, Kristi Nerem of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sons,William Sherwood and Alan Odegaard in November of 2007; brothers, Elmer and Marvin Knapp; sisters, Mary Knapp and Edith Larson. Mrs. Sherwood was a member of the English Lutheran Church at Montclair and especially enjoyed playing bingo.
