Obituary for Gerene Mae Gilmore

Gerene M. Gilmore, 86, of Webster City, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden with Rev. Jay Jaeger officiating. Burial will follow in the Alden Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City, and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Gerene Mae Puttkamer daughter of Charles and Frieda Brandt Puttkamer was born on May 31, 1925 in Hubbard, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Alden Senior High School. On January 9, 1946, she married Robert D. Gilmore at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple resided near Alden where they farmed in the Alden and Williams area. Following their retirement, they moved to Webster City in January of 2001. Mr. Gilmore died on September 28, 2008. She had been residing at Southfield Wellness Community since January of 2010. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Cynthia Gilmore of Ames; Kent and Helen Gilmore of Mankato, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mark Hild of Webster City; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Jack Gilmore of Iowa Falls. In addition to her husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Pat Puttkamer; sister, Elaine Trousdale. Gerene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, where she was active in the Alden Ladies Aide. She loved cooking, dancing, flower gardening, shopping, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Gerene's name to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden or Camp Courageous in Monticello.
