Obituary for Evelyn Brown

Evelyn Brown, 86, of Webster City, died Wednesday July 14, 2009 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Willer officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to the service at the church. Evelyn Maxine O'Connor, daughter of Charley and Mabel Segar O'Connor, was born June 3, 1923 at Webster City. She received her education in Webster City schools. On November 23, 1946, she married Melvin Harry Brown at Webster City. The couple farmed west of Webster City, then farmed four years in the Boone area. In 1956, they returned to farm west of Webster City. They retired to Webster City in 1972. Mr. Brown died March 30, 1993. In October of 2008, she moved to Des Moines to live with her daughters. Evelyn is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Hamman, and Kathy and Bob Clemons, all of Des Moines; four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Wilson of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Marion and Melvin O'Connor; sister, Doris Tapper and a sister in infancy. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Heart or the Kidney Association.
