Obituary for Eugene Roy Cross

Eugene R. Cross, 82, of Webster City, died peacefully Saturday, September 24, 2011 at his home. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will be held at a later date. Eugene Roy Cross son of Roy and Etta Price Cross was born on July 9, 1929 in Fillmore, Saskatchewan, Canada. He received his education from the Fillmore country schools and also attended Luther College in Regina, Sask. Canada. He graduated from Ogden High School in Ogden, IA. and the Boone Junior College. Gene honorably served for 20 years in the Iowa National Guard. On September 23, 1951 he married Shirley Jean Logue in Ogden, IA. He was employed by JC Penney Company as department manager in Boone and Ames, Iowa and St. Cloud, MN. He was store manager for JC Penney Company in Wells, MN. and Webster City. Gene also owned and operated several businesses in Webster City. He had worked for Electrolux Home Products and Beam Industries before his retirement. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Cross; daughter, Russilyn (Kenneth) Bever; sons, LaVern (Carolyn) Cross; and David Cross all of Webster City; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and sister, Joan Berry of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Gene was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church; Acacia Lodge #176 AF & AM; American Legion Post #191 and the Elks all of Webster City.
