Obituary for Dorothy Short

Dorothy A. Short, 91, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at St.Luke’s Regional Medical Center at Sioux City. Private graveside services will be held at Graceland Cemetery, with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home Funeral and Cremation Center. Dorothy Amelia Johnson, daughter of Fred and Laura Fisher Johnson, was born March 5, 1917 at Webster City. She received her education in the Mason City schools, graduating in 1935. On January 7, 1938, she married Howard James Short at Webster City. The couple resided at Webster City. In 1972, they moved to Florida. In 1987, they moved to Springdale, AR. Mr. Short died December 3, 1992. She was a homemaker. Following Howard’s death, she resided with daughters, Donna and Judy. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Merle Wing of Webster City; Donna Hoversten of Alden; Judy and Philip Frakes of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Melva Jean Johnson of Kokomo, IN; Lathella Madsen of Webster City; Helen Gembler of Glenwood; Janet Short of Waukee; foster sister-in-law, Joan Kickbush of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Johnson; brothers, Noble, Paul and Lawrence Johnson.
