Obituary for Dorothy Lucille Orton

Dorothy Orton, 94, of Webster City, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor Patrick Wiedemeier, officiating . Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Dorothy Lucille Rekers, daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Bergstrom Rekers, was born April 12, 1920 in Cedar Falls. She graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College High School in Cedar Falls and then from the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines. She married Dale Orton Sr. on January 1, 1943 at her parent's home in Cedar Falls. The couple resided near Williams where they farmed until 1961, when they moved to Webster City where they made their home. Dale preceded her in death on November 22, 2007. Dorothy moved to Windsor Manor in May of 2014. Dorothy is survived by her children, Dale Orton Jr. of Chicago, IL, Dolores Riley of Raleigh, NC, Darlene (Larry) Hatcher of Cedar Falls, David (Diane) Orton of Webster City, Diane Knudsen of Webster City, Donna (Dave) Scott of Granger; grandchildren, Becky Orton (Troy) Cretsinger, Jill Hatcher (Tad) Mozena, Michelle Riley (Ed) Hicks, Mark (Trina) Hatcher, Brenda Orton (Lee) Belt, Brad (Andrea) Riley, Ryan (Tiffany) Orton, Jason (Sarah) Orton, Jeff (Lily) Scott, Matt Knudsen, Mindi Scott (Josh) Johnson, Jake (Mady) Orton, Jeremy (Molly) Knudsen; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brother, Fred (Juanita) Rekers, Jr. of Cedar Falls. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Everett Rekers; and son-in-law, Mike Knudsen. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Briggs Woods Women's Golf League, First Baptist Alathian Class and served on many boards at the First Baptist Church. Dorothy enjoyed a love for God, her family and golf. Dorothy's passion was that her family "know the Lord". To honor that passion, a memorial will be established for scholarships sending youth to church camps...impacting lives for Christ.
