Donald Raymond Hassebrock, son of Guy and Lena Hassebrock, was born August 8, 1922 at Webster City. He attended Webster City Junior College for one year and A.I.B. at Des Moines. He returned home to help his father farm. On June 8, 1945, he married Esther Johnson and they farmed north of Jewell. During W.W. II, he served in the U.S. Army in counterintelligence and was stationed in Linz, Austria. After retirement, they wintered in Mesa, AZ and spent summers on their farm. They have lived at Ankeny for five years. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esther; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Merritt Beaman of West Des Moines; Deborah and Bill Janson of New Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Mervin and Jackie of DeWitt; grandchildren, Kari, Brent, Chip, Lee and Abe; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Owen, Stella, Elise, Logan and Dayne; sister, Violet Sankey of Britt; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Roger. Don enjoyed working hard and playing hard, loved to travel, was King of the Shuffle Board, enjoyed the challenge of golf and watched many game shows. Don and his family were touched by the outpouring of support during his illness and wanted to express their appreciation of that support, to all that knew and loved him.
