Obituary for Donald Dean Ballantine

Donald Ballantine, 86, of Stanhope, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Van Diest Medical Center. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Stanhope Parish, with Pastor Kay Christie officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Donald Dean Ballantine, son of John and Mayme Meyer Ballantine, was born April 10, 1928 at Ellsworth, Iowa. He received his education in the Ellsworth and Blairsburg Consolidated schools. On April 20, 1947, he married Phyllis M. Robinson at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple farmed near Lehigh for a short time then farmed north of Stanhope. In 1973, they moved into the town of Stanhope. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis; sons and daughters-in-law, John (Bob) and Cindy Ballantine of Harpers Ferry, IA; James (Jim) and Mary Ballantine of Hartland, WI; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Merle (Bud), Gaylord, Robert and Gene (Dick) Ballantine. He was a member of the Stanhope Parish and the Stanhope Lions Club.
