Obituary for Dale Eugene Orton Sr

Dale Eugene Orton Sr., son of Christopher and Eva Tysdahl Orton, was born on January 23, 1917 on the family farm near Radcliffe. He graduated from Radcliffe High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) where he received a B.A. in Education. Following his graduation, he taught Industrial Arts at the Iowa School for the Blind in Vinton. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp. where he served as First Lieutenant in the 98th – 364th Bomb Group, 15th Air Force in the European theatre of action. On January 1, 1943, he married Dorothy L. Rekers at her parents’ home in Cedar Falls. The couple resided near Williams where they farmed until 1961. They moved to Webster City, where he was emp-loyed by Investors Diversified Services. In 1965, he started teaching Business Education at Northeast Hamilton High School until his retire- ment in 1982. He had been residing at Southfield Wellness Community since September. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by his children, Dale Orton Jr. of Chicago, IL, Dolores Riley of Colorado Springs, CO, Darlene (Larry) Hatcher of Cedar Falls, David (Diane) Orton, Diane (Mike) Knudsen all of Webster City, Donna (David) Scott of Jewell; grand- children, Rebecca Orton (Troy) Cretsinger, Jill Hatcher (Tad) Mozena, Michelle Riley (Ed) Hicks, Mark (Trina) Hatcher, Brenda Orton (Lee) Belt, Bradley (Andrea) Riley, Ryan (Tiffany) Orton, Jason (Sarah) Orton, Jeffrey Scott, Matthew Knudsen, Mindi Scott, Jacob Orton, Jeremy Knudsen; and many great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth Orton and Dr. Lawrence Orton, and an infant sister. Dale was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he had served on the board of deacons. He was also a member of the Noon Kiwanis. Dale enjoyed a love for family, golf and nature. The legacy he leaves his family is his strong faith in God. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 543 Division Street, Webster City, Iowa 50595.
