Obituary for Cora Mae Evans

Cora Mae Evans, 98, of Norwalk, formerly of Stanhope, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastors, Ray Block, Ron Kallem and Doug Van Wey officiating. Burial will follow at the Lawn Hill Cemetery south of Stanhope. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Cora Mae Masterson, daughter of Robert and Lillian Becker Masterson, was born on September 19, 1913 in Dallas Center, Iowa. She graduated from Laverne High School in 1931. On February 10, 1937 she married Harold Price Evans in Corwith. The couple farmed at Corwith, later moving to Woolstock, and in 1943 moved to Stanhope. Cora Mae had worked as a bookkeeper for Hove Truck Line and Farmers CO-OP, both of Stanhope; Franklins Manufacturing (Electrolux) in Webster City. She later became a self-employed accountant and was an Avon sales representative for over 23 years. She graduated in 1992 from the Christian Life College with an A.A. in Theology. Mr. Evans died on July 1, 1999. Cora Mae had been residing in Norwalk since May of 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Van De Pol of Norwalk; Kaye (Jack) Klingborg of Cherokee; Rosemary (Michael) Shaw of Idaho; son, Harold R. Evans of Norwalk; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sisters, Betty Williams of Corwith; Margaret (Ed) Trettin and Frances (Harold) Trettin both of Rockford. In addition to her husband Harold, she was preceded in death by a son in infancy; sisters, Anna Godfrey, Roberta Trees, Dorothy Hibbard and Louise Abbas; brother, Floyd Masterson; and her parents. Cora Mae had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford and was recently attending Grace Baptist Church in Des Moines. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and participated in both 4-H and scouts.
