Obituary for Clara Louise Horn

Clara Horn, 96, of Webster City, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at her home. A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City on Saturday morning January 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Mike Kroona officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A private family burial will be at a later date. Clara Louise Charon, the daughter of Louis and Clara Tuerke Charon was born on May 12, 1919 in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1938 and attended Iowa State University. She worked for the family business at the Boston Store in Fort Dodge. Clara married Herbert Horn on September 26, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple resided in Webster City. Clara worked for the Webster City School System until 1972. On December 1, 1998, Herbert preceded her in death. Clara is survived by her daughter, Sandi and Charlie Abbott; grandsons, Eli Abbott, Paul (Haley) Abbott; great-granddaughter, Daisy Pippett. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Maurice and her twin brother, Louis. Clara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was involved in the Altar Guild, church circles, and teaching Sunday school. She was also a member of the Webster City Women's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, Hamilton County Military Family Support Group, Hamilton County Public Hospital Auxiliary, former member of the Eastern Star in Fort Dodge, an advisor, member and past president of the Rainbow Girls, Girl Scout leader, helped her husband with his position as Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She belonged to several card clubs and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Clara loved to cook, bake, and decorate cakes. She was known for her Christmas cookies and cinnamon rolls. She loved to sew, knit, tat, crochet and do needlepoint. She had a green thumb and cared for many house plants. Clara and Herb traveled on numerous bus tours, making memories and many new friends along the way. She enjoyed many memorable summers with her family at their cabins on the Des Moines River and Minnesota lakes. Most of all, Clara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her last few years she was excited to have "her boys" in the CPR band jam in her home. She loved to sit in with them and play along with her maraca. Clara was ever mindful of the needs of others.
