Obituary for Arlene Spangler

Arlene M. Spangler, 73, of Webster City, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Southfield Wellness Community. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Graceland Cemetery, with Rev. Harry Walk officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center one hour before the graveside service. Arlene was born in Webster City on October 19, 1934. She was the daughter of Norman and Viola Powell Ober. She spent her earliest years at Stratford and moved to Webster City at the age of six. She was educated in Webster City schools. As an adult, she lived with her husband and family in area communities including Stratford, Eagle Grove and Webster City. She attended the Church of Christ at Webster City and was a long-time factory worker at White Consolidated Industries. Arlene was a hard worker both at home and in the workforce her entire life. She was a proud supporter and member of the United Auto Workers prior to her retirement in 1994. Sewing and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren aws a special joy for her. She also enjoyed playing cards and taking care of friends and family. Arlene is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Wes and Kathy Spangler of Aurora, CO; Kevin Spangler of Estherville; Steve Spangler of Webster City; Mark and Terry Spangler of Mankato, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Luana and Jon Johnson of Story City, grandchildren, Franchesca, Yvette, Danielle and Jacob Johnson; Bryan, Amanda and Dustin Spangler; Garrison Spangler; Jennifer Ring; Heather Robinson; Patrick Munroe; great-grandchildren, Hannah Hanlin; Andrew and Abigal Ring; Elizabeth and Emma Rose Robinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Viola Ober; step-father, Boyd Hope; sister, Norma Totten and husbands, Ronald and Dale Spangler.
