Obituary for Albert Harold Koolhof

Albert Harold Koolhof, son of Albert and Minnie (Ober) Koolhof was born on September 24, 1919 in Webster City. He graduated from Webster City Lincoln High School in 1938. Albert attended Iowa State University during the winter quarters where he majored in farm operations. On December 8, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. During WW II, he served in the South Pacific Theatre of Action. On February 21, 1946, he married Ruth Angela Christeson at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City. The couple made their home and farmed northwest of Webster City. He retired from farming in 1979. Following his retirement, Albert worked part time for Van Diest Supply Company. The couple moved to their present home in Webster City in 1986. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Ron Birkestrand of Webster City, Jeannie and Mick Ascherl of Omaha, NE, Maureen and Ken Lough of Marion, IA, Jani and Kevin Deaver of Ankeny, Angela and Mick Johnston of Harlan, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Koolhof of West Des Moines; 15 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews; and numerous neighbors and friends who were like family. Albert was preceded in death by his sister, Alvina Duroe and his parents. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Webster City. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City, and the Mid Iowa Marine Corps League Detachment #539 of Fort Dodge. Albert enjoyed reading, golfing and visiting with his various coffee groups including the Birthday Club. Memorials may be directed to the Hamilton Hospital Building Fund or the Kendall Young Library in Webster City.
