William Evans, 90, of Webster City, IA, died Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Van Diest Medical Center. A Memorial Service for both Bill and his wife, Barb, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
William Elmer Evans, son of Elmer and Clara (Drury) Evans, was born August 29, 1931, in Le Mars, IA. He received his education from Shattuck Military Academy, Carlton College and Grinnell College. Bill had a Master’s Degree in Education from Wayne State and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Iowa State University. He served in the Air Force ROTC from 1951 to 1954.
On September 23, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Johnson at the Immanual Lutheran Church in Early, IA. He began his career at North America Aeronautics in Anaheim, CA. He then decided to pursue his dream of becoming a teacher. He first taught junior high Social Studies in Norfolk, NE, before moving to Webster City and teaching at Iowa Central Community College where he taught History, American Civilization and Psychology until 1996. He touched countless lives as an educator.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Evans; children: Laura (Craig) Lentzkow of Yorkville, IL, William “Bart” Evans of Overland Park, KS, and Jon (Mary Jane) Evans of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Alison Parker (Brian), Kathryn Rotella (Joe), Erik Lentzkow, Spencer Shavers, Jordan Evans, Cody Evans, Madison Evans, and Jackson Evans; four great-grandchildren; many other extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Evans; siblings, Shirley Evans Ward and Robert Evans.
William resided with his wife Barbara in Webster City for 53 years. He loved all the winters spent in Yuma, AZ, with family and numerous wonderful friends. William was a faithful servant and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a past member of Kiwanis. He was passionate about his family and also loved travel and gardening. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
