Vicki Loomer-Hokel, 77, of Johnston died Saturday, May 10, 2025 at MercyOne-West Lakes in West Des Moines, IA. Per her wishes, no services will be held. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center handled the cremation and arrangements.

Vicki Anne Ware, daughter of Clyde and Nadine Ware, was born October 10, 1947 in the bustling metropolis of Humboldt. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1966 and embarked on a higher education attending the University of Colorado, Iowa State University, and Iowa Central Community College. Vicki married Karl G. Hokel in Webster City on December 31, 1993 with a New Years party. They were married 20 years and divorced in 2013. Her professional journey involved being a flight attendant for the original Frontier Airline, sold cars in New Jersey and was a registered nurse at Trinity Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA. She also did sales in the radio industry and owned Blue Moon Shirts. She celebrated 47 years of sobriety.

She is survived by her only child, Tiffanee Hokel of Johnston; sister, Suzanne Selby of California; brother and sister-in-law, Terry & Diane Ware of Marshalltown and several nieces and nephews. Vicki is preceded in death by both her parents; brother-in-law, Herb Selby and her fur-babies, Mitchy, Calvin, Parker, Shadow, Buster and Baby. They were her constant companions, and they will have greeted her at the pearly gates with wagging tails and lots of “missed you” kisses.

In her spare time, Vicki embraced many adventures including all things vintage. She had a booth with her daughter at the Brass Armadillo in Des Moines, Iowa. She loved thrift shopping, antiquing, sewing, decorating, and crafting with the tenacity of a DIY Pro. She enjoyed making cute gifts for many occasions for her friends and family. She was also actively involved with the Republican Party and did lots of political volunteer work over the years from fundraising, door knocking and literature drops. In her later years, she enjoyed a large frozen Coke daily.

Vicki did a lot of volunteer work for different animal rescue groups over the years and was on the board for one in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left in Vicki’s honor to Furry Friends Refuge, 3505 Mills Civic Pkwy, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
