Peter Lana, age 79, died Wednesday, August 2, 2023. Peter Lana, the son of Andrew and Josephine (Segreto) Lana, was born November 23, 1943 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from St. Edmonds High School in 1962 and attended ABI in Des Moines. On June 13, 1964, Pete was united in marriage to Patricia Bowens in Fort Dodge. To this union, four beautiful children were born. The couple later divorced.
Pete was well known for being a fabulous cook. Whether it was for family and friends or in the multitude of restaurants, nursing homes and tea rooms he worked, he spent many hours in kitchens working his magic. Besides donuts, he was famous for his spaghetti and meatballs and pizza. Those were the favorites he and his loved ones enjoyed. Leftovers were hard to find with how amazing his food was.
Pete was an executive chef at the Garden Cafe in Omaha for many years. He became the beloved cook at Crestview Nursing home for 16 years before retiring to open his own donut shop. Pete’s Donuts opened in April of 2022. With the love and help from his partner Rebecca, his donut shop dream became a reality. He poured love into every donut and spent his nights and mornings preparing them. He was always amazed at how successful the donuts were and remarked on it often! Mainly, he just wanted to make really great donuts for people and viewed them as family. It became more than just a donut shop.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Anna M. Beckmann.
His spirit is kept alive by his significant other, Rebecca Mines of Webster City; children, Theresa (Tom) Rohde of West Des Moines, Angela (Mark Davies) Parr of Brownsburg, IN, Peter J. Lana of Miamisburg, OH; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Connie (Lowell) Bittrich of York, PA, and Mary Morton of Fort Dodge.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be mailed to the family at Foster Funeral & Cremation Center, 800 Willson Ave, Webster City, IA 50595.
