Neva Mechelsen

Neva Mechaelsen, 85, of Webster City, IA, formerly of Minneapolis, MN and Long Beach, CA, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Hamilton Hospital. Private family memorial services will be held with burial to follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery southeast of Kamrar. There will be no visitation. Neva Mechaelsen, daughter of Seafka and Leona Van Langen Mechaelsen, was born on May 29, 1924 in Kamrar, IA, where she received her primary education from Liberty #9 Rural School. Neva earned a B.A. in Education from Iowa State Teachers College (U.N.I.) and was further awarded her Masters in Education from Long Beach City College. She taught elementary school in Kamrar, Des Moines and Long Beach. Neva retired from teaching and moved to Minneapolis in 1988. She had been residing at Crestview Senior Living as of June of 2009. Survivors include a sister, Doris Peterson of Minneapolis, MN, sisters-in-law Nadine and Coralie Mechaelsen, brother-in-law Corwin Peterson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Howard and Raymond Mechaelsen. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center in Webster City.
