Mildred M. (Vonderhaar) Scoles, age 101, of Webster City, passed away on October 26th, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 with Father Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:45 p.m. followed by a Scripture Service. Mildred Vonderhaar was born in West Point, Iowa on June 17, 1915. At age 5 she moved to Humboldt, Iowa with her parents Bernard and Clara. She attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1933. Mildred attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Carroll, Iowa graduating in 1937. After graduating with her RN she worked in several small Iowa hospitals. In 1942 she was employed as a RN at Hamilton County Hospital until retiring in 1972. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Neil B. Scoles, Sr. They made their home in Webster City. Mildred is survived by her children, Beth Scoles of Ankeny and Dan (Sue) Scoles of Ames. She has three granddaughters, Sarah (Derek) Haugen of Ankeny, Jennifer (Justin) Knox of San Diego and Annie Scoles of San Diego. Also surviving is step daughter, Pat (Art) Downard of Webster City. She was a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Mildred enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and most recently at the Senior Center. China painting was another hobby she enjoyed and she gifted many of her pieces to family and friends. Mildred was proceeded in death by her husband, Neil in 1969; brothers, Gerald, Arthur and Adrian; sisters, Mary and Ruth. Also step children, Neil Jr., and Helen Johnson.
