Merlin " Mike " Hogan, 84, of Webster City, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. Scott Boone presiding. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. Friday followed by a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191 of Webster City. Merlin Joseph Hogan, son of Michael and Alice Conners Hogan, was born April 8, 1926 at Dougherty, Iowa. He attended St. Patrick's elementary and high school at Dougherty. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Navy. He started with the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1948. The couple moved to Webster City in 1950. On June 23, 1951, he married Melinda Emily Giesking at Mason City. They resided in Webster City. He had been employed with the Iowa Highway Patrol for 35 years at Dubuque, Humboldt and Webster City. He retired in 1983. Mike is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Kim Hogan of Webster City and a nephew, Edward Soucek of Dougherty. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Soucek. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was a 62 year member of American Legion Post # 191.
