Melba Tolstrup, 89, of Webster City, died on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Asbury United Methodist Church with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Flagg, officiating. Burial will follow the services at Graceland Cemetery.
Melba Mary Mathews was born on June 30, 1929 on the farm in Woolstock, the daughter of John and Edith Dakins Mathews. She graduated from Woolstock Schools and attended business college. She married Jerry James Tolstrup on January 12, 1972 in South Dakota. The couple lived in Jewell before moving to Webster City in 1995. Melba was a telephone operator before working at Morton Foods. She owned and operated the Malibu Lounge in Jewell, retiring in 1984.
Melba is survived by her husband, Jerry of Webster City; children, Gail Harrison of Bluff City, TN; David (Mary) Schmidt of Woolstock; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lyle, Donald and Gaylord Mathews.
Melba enjoyed shopping, reading, collecting crystals and spending time with her family.
