Maxine Nelson

Maxine Steuerwald Nelson, 87, of Stratford, died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Stratford Specialty Care. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at McGuire Bend United Brethren Church in Dayton, with Chaplain Jerry Newswander officiating. Burial will follow the services at McGuire Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Marjorie Maxine Richey, the daughter of Lester and Flossie Gleason Richey was born February 6, 1930 in Dayton. She attended Stratford schools. She married Dale Steuerwald on May 13, 1947. She worked at the Stratford Pharmacy and was the owner of a clothing store. Dale preceded her in death on May 25, 1982. In the summer of 1983 she married Robert Nelson and moved to Eagle Grove, where she worked at the Rotary Senior Living and the bakery. Robert preceded her in death on September 28, 1996. In 2014 she moved to Stratford Specialty Care. Maxine is survived by her daughters, Carol (Donald) Kaisand of Kellogg, Donna (Kenneth) Sanders of Dayton, Lynn (Jeffrey) Smith of Stratford, Brenda (Steve) McMahon of Boone; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lyle (Betty) Richey of Stratford and Janice (Don) Ford of Dayton. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; grandson, Eric McMahon; brother, Sheldon Richey; sisters, Dorothy Swanson and Bernice Tell.
