Mary Akins

Mary Akins, 68, of Stratford formerly of Eagle Grove died Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Rotary Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Stratford Lutheran Church, with Pastor Alex Zenk officiating. Burial will follow at McGuire Bend Cemetery, south of Lehigh. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the church. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Mary Filena Gross, daughter of David and Taletta (Sunde), was born July 7, 1957 in Iowa Falls. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1975. On October 7, 1978, Mary was united in marriage to Richard Akins in Eagle Grove. The couple resided in Stratford where Mary work at the Stratford Care Center as a CNA for many years. She enjoyed camping and reading.

She is survived by her father, David Gross of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Sarah Akins and Richard “Richie” Akins Jr.; two great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; her sisters, Thersa (Francis) Will of Northwood, Wilma Hinz of Eagle Grove, Anna Snyder of Eagle Grove, Wanda (Aaron) Rutledge of Eagle Grove; brothers, William Gross of Eagle Grove, Walter Gross of Goldfield and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her mother, Taletta; stepson, Richard Allen Akins; her grandparents and great-grandparents.
