Luverne Olson, 97, of Jewell, died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will begin Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is handling the arrangements. Luverne Edwin Olson, son of Jesse and Ethel Steele Olson was born on August 21, 1913 in Ellsworth, Iowa. On December 31, 1938 he married Myrtle Henryson in Story City. The couple farmed for over 40 years in the Jewell area. Luverne also had a corn shelling business for many years. In 1978, the couple retired in Jewell. Myrtle died April 1, 2004. He had been residing at Crestview Senior Living for the past three years. Survivors include his daughter, Karmon (Mike) Bringolf of Cedar Rapids, IA; son, Loren Olson of Story City, IA; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Jim) Thorson of Jewell, IA; and Dorothy Curran of Spring Valley, IL. In addition to his wife Myrtle, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael L. Olson; brother, Augie Olson; sisters, Alice Carpenter; Virginia Cain; Fern Murphy and his parents. Luverne was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church. His hobbies included bowling and golf. Luverne was a member of the Jewell Golf & Country Club for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Luverne was a quiet and gentle soul who touched many hearts.
