Leslie C. Carroll, 87, of Webster City, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to the service on Saturday. Leslie Charles Carroll, son of John and Ermal Potts Carroll, was born July 20, 1921 on a farm northwest of Jewell. He attended rural schools near Jewell. On December 13, 1941, he married Shirley Edna Halliday at Nashua. The couple farmed near Callender until 1961 when they moved to Gowrie. He worked as a welder for Peterson Welding and Buske Industries, both at Gowrie. He semi-retired and started a lawn care business which he operated for several years. Mrs. Carroll died June 28, 2001. He had resided at Southfield Wellness Community since 2007. Les is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Jerald Decker of Gowrie; Beverly Edie of Marshalltown, Kathryn Martin of Gowrie; Margaret Dingman of Webster City; Kelly Vladeff of Gowrie; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, John Carroll, Jr. of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Vladeff; brothers, Floyd and Dale Carroll; sisters, Colleen Follett and Darlene Paulsen.
