Lee R. Ayers, 98, of Webster City died Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Van Diest Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion Post #191. A time of fellowship will follow at the American Legion from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm.
Lee Rex Ayers, son of Leo and Gladys (Grant) Ayers, was born April 28, 1928 on the family farm in Ringgold County, Iowa. He graduated from Shannon City High School and attended college at Tarkio College in Missouri. He served in the United States Army from 1950 – 1952. On March 29, 1952 Lee was united in marriage to Deloris Pottorff at his parent’s home in Shannon City. The couple moved to Webster City in 1966. He was the regional manager for Successful Farming Magazine, a Meredith Corp. for 47 years.
He is survived by his spouse of 74 years, Deloris; son, Raymond (Kay) Ayers of Creston; daughters, JoAnn (Don) Duff of Norwalk, Linda (Mike) Christianson of Lehigh, Tina (Matthew) Parrish of Vashon, WA; daughter-in-law, Kelly Ayers of Webster City; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren along with several extended family members.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Peggy Ayers; son, Richard Ayers Sr.; and brothers, Raymond Ayers, Leslie Ayers and Patrick Ayers in infancy.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Lee was also very active in a number of patriotic organizations. Some of his titles have included: Commander- American Legion Post #19 in Webster City, Commander- 8th District American Legion, State Secretary- Sons of the American Revolution, State President- Iowa Independent Order of the Odd Fellows (IOOF), 3 time State President- Encampment Branch of IOOF, Vice Commander- Cantons Branch of IOOF and member of the Rebekah Lodge of WC. .
