Luverne C. Range, 64, of Ames, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City, with Rev. Dr. Todd Jenks officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the church, Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191 of Webster City. Luverne Carl Range, son of John and Lucille Fessenden Range, was born May 31, 1946 at Mora, MN. At the age of 4, he moved with his family to Princeton, MO, then in 1954 they moved to the Kamrar area. He received his education in the Webster City school system. He served with the U.S. Army -- 80th Artillery, 7th Infantry Division, with time spent in Korea, he also served 5 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. On February 14, 1971, he married Phyllis Muessigmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. The couple resided at Ames. He had been employed with the Ames Park and Recreation Department for 32 years and at Electrolux for 3 years, retiring in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Dawn Range; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Range and Erich and Jessica Range; grandchildren, Emily and Aiden Range, all of Ames; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marian and Bud Hill of St. Igance, MI; Janet and Ernest Stacy of Moline, IL; Esther and Bernard Long of Webster City; Jeanette and Bill Muessigmann of Stanhope; Nancy and Ron Davis of Clarion; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Barb Range of Belle Vista, AR; Duane and Mary Range of Webster City; Eugene Range of Kamrar; special friend, Johnathan Kuebler of Ames; several nieces and nephews. Luverne was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Esther Muessigmann; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Wilbur Davis and a brother and sister, in infancy, Gary and Kathy Range.
