Kenneth Ray Getting, son of John and Minnie (Kromminga) Getting, was born September 4, 1948, in Iowa Falls. He graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School in 1966 and went on to serve in the United States Army for two years. On September 1, 1973, Ken was united in marriage to Kathryn Lynn Nelson who grew up on the family farm in Webster City.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy, of Webster City; sons, Tyler Getting, of Williams; Nick (Erica) Getting, of Webster City; grandsons, Thomas, Declan and Theodore; niece Marsh (Paul) Lynch, of Altoona; and nephew Roger (Joan) Sage, of Eden Prairie, MN.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Getting; half-sister, Marcella Sage; and niece, Angela Weisberg Burger.
Ken was a quiet man with an engaging grin. He lived most of his life in the Williams area. He loved hanging out with his Williams buds, whether golfing, hanging at Mary & Wayne’s bar or playing cards in the garage. Music was usually playing in the background of his life. He loved listening to blues and dancing with his wife. During football and basketball seasons, he followed the Iowa Hawkeyes. After a nomad life on road construction in their early years of marriage, Ken and Kathy returned to the area where he began his 40 years at Peterson Construction.
He volunteered his master carpenter skills to build the open shelter and install playground equipment in the Williams Park and often helped his friends and family with their projects. When Kathy could not let two good bargains pass, he forgave her and they flipped two houses in Williams.
Memorials may be designated for the soundproofing of the enclosed Williams City Park shelter.
