Kathleen Ann Lessels, daughter of Alexander and Isabella (Boswell McKenzie) Lessels, was born February 2, 1928, in Burlington, Iowa. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1946. On June 24, 1951, Kathleen was united in marriage to Ellis "Doc" Swon at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, Beam Manufacturing, and Carolyn's Hallmark.
Kathleen was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a founding member of Webster City Meals on Wheels and a member of Chapter EL P.E.O., Beta Sigma Phi, Order of the Eastern Star (78 years), and the Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered for Webster City RSVP. Kathleen enjoyed gardening, handiwork, puzzles, and baking.
She loved to travel, especially enjoyed visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but most of all she treasured spending time with her family. She was a proud mother and grandmother who was often found cheering on her grandchildren at their events. Until very recently, Kathleen faithfully kept a journal documenting her days on calendars and in notebooks with great detail. After moving to Windsor Manor, she was rarely in her apartment, as she loved spending time with her friends and playing dominoes, which replaced her longtime bridge game.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Rebecca Beals) Swon of Costa Mesa, California, and Kyle (Darcy) Swon of Stratford; grandchildren, Erin (Daniel) Norris, Emily Swon, Luba Swon (partner Max Greenfield), Bryan (Jenna) Swon, Shannon Swon (fiancé Janson Bergman), and Lauren Swon (partner Austin Carlson); great-grandchildren, Maggie, Nellie, and Wes; a great-grandchild due to arrive in June; and her cat, Carmel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Swon; her parents; and her brother, Russel Lessels.
Memorials may be made payable to the Enhanced Hamilton County Foundation and sent to 501 Bank Street, Webster City, IA 50595, or given to the family. Donations will be directed to charities that Kathleen was fond of. Please write Kathleen Swon in the memo line.
