Julie Lynn Arends, the daughter of Eldon and Carolyn Ingraham Arends was born on June 4, 1966 in Webster City. She graduated from South Hamilton in 1984 and attended Iowa State University. On November 19, 1988 Julie was united in marriage to Andrew Robert Peterson at the Community Church of Kamrar. To this union two children were born, Michael and Kristin. Julie started her own dog grooming business, Julie’s Jewels, while still a teenager. Besides her family, animals were her life. Being self-employed, allowed her to attend all of Michael and Kristin’s events at school. When Julie was younger, her family called her the Energizer Bunny as she never ran out of energy. During her high school years, she was a talented artist, 20 years later in Mr. Lovell’s art class he still was showing pictures she had drawn. Carolyn and Eldon were always needing to build cages for the animals that Julie brought home. She showed horses and went all over the country with her rabbits. Julie loved flying through the snow at high speeds being pulled by the competition dogs and sled. She helped many children get started showing rabbits. Julie drew cartoons that were published in the South Hamilton News, was Hector the Hawk for ballgames, and took her animals to the nursing homes. Over the last few years she had enjoyed helping her mom in the green house taking care of the succulents. Julie became a diabetic at 2 ½ years old. She never let the disease slow her down, she was going to prove to herself and the world that she could do anything she put her mind to. She rode a bike in several Bike-a-Thons to raise money for diabetes. This last year and a half she fought a valent battle to save her feet. In the end, the Lord said, “Come with me my child, I will give you rest and peace”.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew of 31 years; mother, Carolyn Arends; children, Michael Peterson of Jewell and Kristin Peterson of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Case Peterson and newborn, Hayden Scott Erickson; grandmother, Glenna Ingraham of Webster City and many extended family.
Julie was preceded in death by her father, Eldon Arends; grandfathers, Floyd Ingraham and Wyatt Arends and grandmother, Margaret Arends.
She was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar where she had been very active in teaching Vacation Bible School and known as the Tie Dye Lady. Julie helped the 5th and 6th children do nativity scenes.
Memorial contributions will be used to help pay for Julie’s medical expenses.
