John Robert Manship, son of Robert and Anna Perry Manship was born on November 6, 1938 in Farrar, Iowa. He received his education from the Colo, Collins, and Marshalltown Schools. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy, as a "kiddie Cruiser" in 1956, where he was an aviation electrician on aircraft carriers until his honorable discharge in 1959. In 1958, he married Lois Knoll. The couple later divorced. John worked for the Bordens Dairy Company in Marshalltown for over 10 years. In 1970, he started with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines. On October 14, 1984, he married Larita Yates in Webster City. The couple resided in Des Moines where he continued to work at NWB. He retired from Qwest in 1998, and the couple moved to on Webster City on July 5, 1998. John worked for Hamilton Hospital in maintenance for 2 ½ years. He had worked for 6 years for the city of Webster City at Graceland Cemetery and also worked part time at the Webster City Medical Clinic. In addition to his wife Larita, he is survived by his children, Kevin (Cyndi) Manship of Prairie City; Kimberly Manship of Des Moines; Ken Manship of Idaho; grandchildren, Savannah and Jacob Manship; sisters-in-law, Maxine Fitchhorn, Janet Yates, Kathy Yates, (Vera?) Yates all of Webster City; brothers-in-law, Wendell (Ardy) Yates, Andy (Charlene) Yates, Joe (Sandy) Yates also of Webster City; uncle and aunt, Everett and Dorothy Perry of Marshalltown; several cousins and many friends. John was prceded in death by his parents; step father; sister, Kathryn Schmidt and a brother and sister in infancy. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Telephone Pioneers Club, and the Moose Family Center all in Webster City.
