God needed Joe Kopriva on Wednesday, July 26 just a little bit more than his family did. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center (800 Willson Ave. Webster City, Iowa). Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the funeral home.
Joseph John Kopriva IV, 59, son of Joseph and Janice (Dethlefs) Kopriva III, was born January 21, 1964 in Waterloo. He attended and graduated from North Tama High School in 1982 where he was an all-star athlete in wrestling and baseball. He never let his family forget that “back in his day” he was THE Joey Kopriva.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Iowa, beginning his life-long love of Iowa Hawkeyes (Go Iowa State!).
On March 17, 2001 Joe became the self-proclaimed “Luckiest Bastard Alive” when he married “his princess”, Sarah Marie Hisler. Joe proudly claimed his new title of “Girl Dad” when Joe and Sarah welcomed their first daughter, Harper Kopriva in April of 2002, his new princess. In February 2004, Delaney “Del Rae” completed the Kopriva Four.
Joe spent nearly three decades in his career in Central Vacuum Sales. He cherished his friendships with the original “Beam Team” while establishing a multitude of relationships with coworkers and customers.
Joe was everyone’s favorite. He had a kind and warm personality; talking to him was like talking to someone you knew your whole life. Being a quiet observer and great listener, he was intentional about drawing others into conversation; he made everyone feel included. He lived with three beautiful, hot-headed women yet remained level-headed in all times; he was the glue that held the family together.
Joe was an avid fan of the sport of wrestling in Iowa. He followed the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament so closely each year that often plans with his wife were cancelled. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan, despite many heartbreaking seasons. As of late, bourbon became a huge passion of Joe’s – attending the Bourbon Club, learning and tasting, and educating others.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sarah of Webster City; daughters, Harper Jayne Kopriva of Webster City, Delaney Rae Kopriva of Waterloo; father, Joseph Kopriva III of Traer; siblings, Curt (Barb) Kopriva, Todd Kopriva, Denise (Dave) Danker all of Traer, Julie (Terry) Steinbach of Cedar Rapids, Dan Kopriva and Jay Kopriva both of Traer; sister-in-law, Marta (Steve) Paukert and girls, Emersen, Sarah, Brenna (Austin); fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Paula (Fitch) Fitchhorn of Webster City, Bob (Mary) Hisler of Woolstock; aunt, Linda Olmstead of Webster City and her son, Cooper (Codi) Olmstead and son, Case of Jewell; 13 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Kopriva; aunt, Judy Dethlefs; nephew, Kyle McCauley; great-nephew Leo Salzwedel; Grandma and Grandpa Adams; uncle, Dan Olmstead; and family friend, Monica Huelman-Zaruba.
Joey, JoeHoney, JoeDaddy, Uncle Joe Joe, you are forever aging and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to his family.
