Howard Mccarty

Howard McCarty, 85, of Stanhope, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Hamilton Hospital. Military graveside rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Camp Butler Veterans Cemetery at Springfield, Illinois. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Howard Edward McCarty, son of Edward and Eula Mae Lindsey McCarty, was born February 10, 1923 at Literberry, IL. He received his education in the Ashland Public Schools. On August 18, 1948, he married Henrietta A. Schnelker at St. Louis, Missouri. Henrietta died January 14, 1988. In 1993, he married Ruby Rigg Martin, they were later divorced. He had worked in pipe line construction as a young man. He owned a farm at Literberry and had worked for the Henry Nelch and Son Lumber Company at Jacksonville, IL. for 40 years. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Army, then he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 20 years retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He is survived by daughter, Kathleen McCarty of Stanhope and son, Howard McCarty, Jr. of Macon, MO; sister, Mary Lou Bailey of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son. He was a member of the Church of Our Savior at Jacksonville, IL.
