Helen Nelson

Helen Nelson, 97 of Webster City, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Radcliffe Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Helen Lucille Larson was born October 24, 1920 in LeRoy, MN the daughter of Oliver and Velma (Martin) Larson. Helen grew up in Radcliffe, attending Radcliffe School. She was an active player on the girls' basketball team in High School. After graduating in May 1938, she worked for a while and then joined the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) on February 2, 1943 and discharged August 18, 1943 when the WAAC was changed to Regular Army (WAC). She was married at this time also. Helen was a long time active member of the American Legion Auxiliary #191 in Webster City holding several different offices and actively taking her turn on poppy days. Helen liked to sew clothes and toys for her children and their children. She also liked quilting and crocheting. She liked to watch baseball, keeping the score of each game also liked to watch Nascar Racing on TV. Helen is survived by her children; William (Kristi) Nelson, Velma Stewart, Alan (Peggy) Nelson, Dorothy (Kriss) Hiveley, Donna Stimpson and Joyce (Dale) Stewart; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a baby brother; grandchildren, Gary Nelson and Beth Stewart; great-grandchildren, Kaylynn and Thomas Snow; great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Sylvi Jacobson.
