Harold " Harry " Strain, 84, of Webster City, died Thursday, April 08, 2010 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Harold was born February 25, 1926 at Clayworks, IA, the only son of Mont Ralph (Bill) and Agnes McDonald Strain. He grew up with 6 sisters in various parts of Iowa and graduated from Graettinger High School with the class of 1945. He served his country in the Army from 1945 to 1947 as a lineman with overseas duty in Italy. He married Marilyn Young on August 28, 1948 at Graettinger. To this union two daughter and one son were born, Kathy, Jan and Larry. He returned to Graettinger and worked at the Graettinger Block And Tile until moving to Webster City in 1950. He then worked for Electrolux for 38 years and retired in 1988 as a Maintenance Mechanic. Harry is survived by his wife of 61years, Marilyn, two daughters Kathy (Jim) Shaver of Manhattan, KS, Jan Eich and life partner Pam Fitzgibbon of Webster City; son, Larry (Deanne) Strain of West Branch, IA; five granddaughters, Susan (Mike) Boller, Cindy Shaver both of Manhattan, KS, Tammy (Jeff) Jennings of Cedar Rapids, Tina (Kevin) Lawrence of Woolstock, Shawna (Matt) Nielsen of Des Moines; 9 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois (Ray) Montgomery of Webster City, Shirley Strain of Fort Dodge, Alice (Frank) Castillo of Casa Grande, AZ, Rose Wherta of Mission Viego, CA; brothers-in-law Robert Green of Granada, MN, Gary Young, Victor (Barb) Young both of Webster City, Terry (Pat) Young of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Shirley (Rick) Rickard of Spokane, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Doris Green and Helen Simmons, and son-in-law Mark Eich. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, American Legion Post # 191 and UAW Local #442. Harry was a dedicated family man and his family was always his first priority.
