Glenn VanValkenburg III, 65, of Webster City, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Tony Ede officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home. Glenn VanValkenburg III, son of Glenn and Grace Moriaty VanValkenburg, was born December 7, 1944 at Springfield, MA. He received his education in the Springfield school system and also attended one year of college. He was a firefighter for the U. S. Airforce at Westover Airforce Base at Chickape, MA, retiring in 1995. On May 9,1995, he married Carol Hawkins at Las Vegas, NV. He worked for the City of North Las Vegas for 11 years. The couple moved to Webster City in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Reilly of Menifee, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Jody VanValkenburg of Fort Dodge; step-children, Scott, Kevin and Nathan Hawkins, all of LaFayette, LA; 13 grandchildren; his father, Glenn VanValkenburg II of East Longmeadow, MA; sisters, Gail Wood and Valerie Kara, both of East Longmeadow, MA; brother, William VanValkenburg of Wildwood, FL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace. Glenn was a member of American Legion Post # 8 of Las Vegas.
