Gary N. Wing, 74, of Stanhope, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 14th at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanhope with Pastor Suzie Moore officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Stanhope E.M.T. or Stanhope Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Gary Norman Wing, son of Jesse and Alice Nelson Wing, was born June 29, 1936 at Stanhope. He received his education in the Stanhope Consolidated School. He also attended Des Moines Tech and the I.C.C.C. Aviation Program. On June 22, 1958, he married Barbara Baer at Stanhope. For two years, the couple resided at Atlanta, GA, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, they returned to Stanhope. He was a self employed electrician and owned his own business, Wing's TV. He later worked for Van Diest Supply Company, retiring in 1998. After retirement, he drove Bus # 8 for South Hamilton School. He is survived by his wife, Barb; daughters and sons-in-law, Lorrie and Thomas Ludwig of Ankeny; Ann and Chad Vogelbacher of Webster City; grandchildren, Sean and Sarah Vogelbacher; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Wing. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanhope Lions Club, Moose Lodge, American Legion Post # 191, enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, cherished his time with his grandchildren, enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and had a passion for flying.
