Eva Arloie Samuelson, 86, of Stanhope passed away at the Green Hills Retirement Community at Ames on Sunday, October 24, 2010. Following Arloie's wishes, her body has been cremated and a private graveside service with inurnment to follow at Saratoga Cemetery. Eva Arloie Bottorff was born September 5, 1924 on a farm southeast of Webster City. Her parents were, Ethel Joy Hurst and Ervin J. Bottorff. After graduating from Blairsburg Public School, she attended Webster City Junior College and taught at the Cole rural school. She received a B. A. from Iowa State Teachers College and taught at Buffalo Center, Lake City and Stanhope. Arloie married Robert Dale Samuelson June 3, 1950 at Webster City. They farmed north of Stanhope for 60 years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Samuelson is survived by her husband, Robert of Stanhope; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindra and Douglas Goodburn of Cherokee, Roberta and Daniel Lawler of Bettendorf; son and daughter-in-law, Arlon and Pam Samuelson of Stanhope; her cherished grandchildren, Nathan Goodburn; Trevor (Tricia) Goodburn; Monica (Scott) Weinman: Rachel (Jason) Shumaker; Sara, Sandra and Casey Samuelson and great-granddaughter, Nora Weinman. Arloie often expressed appreciation of friends and family who were so kind during her long battle with cancer. She enjoyed the Spirit Group of the Stanhope Parish, the Federated Women's Club, Farm Bureau, 4-H, teaching Bible school and Sunday school, playing 500, poetry, reading, tatting and having various collections.
